GEL Client David Bighia was featured in a front page Omaha World Herald article about his disability discrimination lawsuit against the U.S. Air Force, which he won on summary judgment with the help of his GEL legal team. In December 2021, an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Administrative Judge found the Air Force liable for discriminating against Mr. Bighia based on his disability and in violation of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. On June 29, 2022, the Administrative Judge ordered the Air Force to provide Mr. Bighia monetary relief estimated to exceed $1 million, including compensatory damages, back pay, and attorney’s fees. The Administrative Judge ordered the Air Force to provide Mr. Bighia the ordered relief by no later than July 29, 2022. However, the Air Force has resisted complying with the Administrative Judge’s order. GEL attorney Keith Taubenblatt continues to fight for Mr. Bighia to make sure he receives the money the US Air Force owes him. “They’ve lost their case,” Mr. Taubenblatt told the World Herald. “But they are nonetheless going to cause Dave and his wife [further harm by refusing to pay the ordered award]. It’s unconscionable.” To read the article, click here.
