Overtime laws are in place in the state of Maryland so that workers are protected financially if they are required to work an excessive amount of hours. Employers have the legal responsibility to make sure that all their workers are being paid the appropriate minimum wage, and that they get reimbursed for overtime hours that they work.

Overtime in Maryland
In the state of Maryland, overtime is paid at 1.5 times the normal wage per hour. It should be paid as part of the employee’s paycheck when they receive their salary. However, many workers fail to receive the overtime they deserve because they do not know they are entitled to it.
Am I entitled to overtime in Maryland?
Most people who receive an hourly wage are entitled to overtime in Maryland. However, there are some exceptions. Employees of movie theaters or drive-in movie theatres are exempt from overtime law, as well as employees of businesses that package and process perishable foods such as seasonal fruits and meats. In addition, executive employees and those who have a fixed salary are not eligible for overtime pay.
