Maya P. Jefferson

Ms. Maya P. Jefferson is an associate with Gilbert Employment Law, focusing on the representation of both federal and private sector employees involving claims of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, as well as violations the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and related state and local laws. Ms. Jefferson’s practice includes litigating on behalf of clients in federal and state courts, as well as administrative forums such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Merit Systems Protection Board.

Prior to joining the Gilbert Employment Law as an associate in 2021, Ms. Jefferson worked as a law clerk with a plaintiff-side employment law firm in Washington D.C. Additionally, she served as a law clerk for Administrative Judge Sharon Alexander at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. As a student attorney with the Civil Advocacy Clinic, Ms. Jefferson represented employees in wage and hour disputes in D.C. Superior Court and Maryland Circuit Court. Ms. Jefferson was also a member of the Journal for Gender, Social Policy, and the Law, where she served as a Publications Editor. Prior to law school she served as an AmeriCorps member with an education-based non-profit and a charter school in Washington D.C.

Ms. Jefferson graduated with her Juris Doctor from American University Washington College of Law and holds a Bachelor of the Arts in Women’s and Gender Studies, Political Science, and Philosophy from Wake Forest University.

Ms. Jefferson is a member of the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association.
