Ms. Berkeley Newhouse-Velie is an associate with Gilbert Employment Law, focusing on the representation of both federal and private sector employees involving claims of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, as well as violations the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and related state and local laws. Ms. Newhouse-Velie’s practice includes litigating on behalf of clients in federal and state courts, as well as administrative forums such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Merit Systems Protection Board.

Prior to joining Gilbert Employment Law as an associate in 2026, Ms. Newhouse-Velie was a litigation fellow at AARP Foundation, where she worked on ERISA, consumer protection, and age and sex discrimination class action lawsuits. During law school, Ms. Newhouse-Velie completed over 1,000 hours of pro bono service, served as a law clerk in the Office of General Counsel of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and in the Office of the Colorado Attorney General. Through the Harvard Employment Law clinic, Ms. Newhouse-Velie externed at the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination.

In addition, Ms. Newhouse-Velie served as an executive technical editor of the Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review, as a research assistant on The Law of Asylum in the U.S., and as a board member of the Women’s Law Association.

Ms. Newhouse-Velie received her J.D. from Harvard Law School and holds a Bachelor of the Arts in History from the University of Colorado Boulder.
