Michael Spekter is of counsel to Gilbert Employment Law and specializes in representing federal employees in employment and retirement related matters He has practiced extensively before the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, as well as both the local and federal Courts of the District of Columbia and Maryland, and especially at  the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, where he has been responsible for a number of federal seminal retirement cases which protect the rights of part time federal employees.

He is a graduate of Villanova University, BA cum laude, Honors Program, and received his JD degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law where he was a dean’s list student. 

Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Spekter was one of the original senior prosecuting  attorneys for the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, and  litigated numerous seminal federal whistleblower retaliation and Hatch Act cases in the federal government. He has also successfully litigated numerous DC Whistleblower cases. 

In addition to practicing law, Mr. Spekter is an adjunct professor at both the University of Baltimore School of Law and American University Washington College of Law where he teaches courses on Law Practice Management. He also coaches the ABA employment law moot court team from The University of Baltimore Law School.

He is also an active member of the Law Practice Division of the American Bar Association, where he holds a position on the Leadership Council, and as an associate editor to Law Practice, the magazine of the Law Practice Division, where he is a regular contributor.

Mr. Spekter began his legal career in Arizona as a Pima County Public Defender, in Tucson Arizona. He is a member of the bars of Arizona, Maryland and the District of Columbia, the companion Federal Courts and the U.S. Supreme Court.
