Ms. Laura Varela-Addeo is an associate attorney with Gilbert Employment Law where she primarily litigates employment discrimination claims in federal court. Ms. Varela-Addeo also represents federal employees in litigation against the federal government.

Prior to joining the firm in 2012, Ms. Varela-Addeo was the Director of the Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project at the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs. While at the Committee, Ms. Varela-Addeo litigated cases involving immigrants who were victims of discrimination in housing and employment, and who were denied lawfully earned wages pursuant to state and federal law. Ms. Varela-Addeo also represented immigrants who were victims of unlawful use of force by the police and denied medical care in local detention facilities. Ms. Varela-Addeo also co-authored a report entitled, "Wages Denied: Day Laborers in the District of Columbia" which documented the challenges faced by DC's immigrant and homeless day laborers. After graduating from law school, Ms. Varela-Addeo worked as a staff attorney at CASA of Maryland where she represented immigrant day laborers who were victims of unlawful employment practices in Baltimore, Maryland.

Ms. Varela-Addeo graduated from the University of Michigan Law School where she was the recipient of the Juan Tienda Scholarship Award for her demonstrated commitment to working in underserved Latino communities. Ms. Varela-Addeo also participated in the General Law School Clinic where, as a student-attorney, she filed a brief in the U.S. Court of the Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and represented clients in state court. Ms. Varela-Addeo also served on the executive committee for the University of Michigan's Latino Law Student Association.

Ms. Varela-Addeo graduated from the University of Maryland College Park, where she received a four-year athletic scholarship to play Division I soccer for the Maryland Terrapins.
